Night consultation prep checklistUpdated 9 months ago

DryEyeShop can provide consultations by appointment to give you our best recommendation for a night dry eye protection strategy. We do not provide medical advice and we strongly recommend that you review your product selection(s) with your eye care provider.

To prepare for a consultation, please be ready to answer the following:

Doctor's advice and current practice
  • If applicable, what eye care regimen has your eye care provider advised you to use at night for your dry eye eye condition(s), including lubricants, tapes, goggles or other? 
  • Are there any products you have been advised not to use?
  • What are you currently  using?
Eye and eyelid conditionsDo you have any of the following:
  • Recent eye or eyelid surgery
  • Nocturnal lagophthalmos (incomplete lid closure at night) including Bell's palsy, ptosis, or effects from blepharoplasty or acoustic neuroma surgery
  • Thyroid Eye Disease 
  • Blepharitis/MGD
  • Recurrent Corneal Erosions e.g. MDFD/ABMD
  • Ocular allergy
  • Entropion 
  • Trichiasis
  • Floppy Eyelid Syndrome (FES)
  • Glaucoma / elevated intraocular pressure
  • Other: Please share any other eye conditions you have
Sleep style
  • Back?
  • Back and side?
  • Side?
  • Side and stomach?
  • Stomach?
  • All over?
Affected eye(s) and symptoms
  • Are both eyes affected or just one?
  • What symptoms do you experience during the night and if so, how frequently? 
  • What symptoms do you experience upon waking in the morning, and how frequently?
  • Do you every experience sharp eye pain during the night or upon waking?
CPAP usage
  • We recommend Zoom consultations for CPAP users. 
  • If this is not an option, please provide your mask model and size and if possible a picture of yourself wearing it.
Skin conditions
  • Is your skin very impressible i.e. products worn overnight are likely to leave indentations?
  • Are you allergic to silicone?
  • Any other conditions or sensitivities that may limit the type of product you can wear on your face at night?
Lubricants
  • Are you using drops, gel or ointment at night?
  • Do you re-apply any of these products during the night?
Other
  • Do you rub your eyes?
  • What things have you tried that did not work? Why didn't they work for you?
  • What else should we know about you that might affect your ability to wear a product on your head during the night?
